Be Still.
February 2nd, 2010
Posted by: Jonathan Goode
“Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”
-Psalm 46:10 (NIV)
I’m convinced that at the very core of who I am lies a dreamer. That is, when you remove all of the facade, when I stop trying to be one thing for one person and another thing for another, I am, a dreamer. I dream all the time. Big dreams. Little dreams. Smart dreams. Dumb dreams. Not dreams in the sense of what I think about when I sleep, but dreams in the sense of things I want for my life.
Now, often times, my dreams are very well intentioned. In fact, I would say (more times than not) my dreams are focused on how I can help others. My ability to dream, and communicate my dreams to others, is, I believe, a gift from the Almighty. With that said, I am beginning to realize something that my dreaming does. My dreams (and the subsequent pursuit there-of) often cause me to slow down the fervor in which I pursue the heart of God, for the sake of accomplishing the dreams God has given me.
This is a travesty! If I am to believe that God is the ultimate “Dream Giver”, then doesn’t it make logical sense that I would NEED to be as closely connected with Him as possible in order to fully comprehend the direction I am to go with the dreams that I cherish so much?
This message is about the primary thing that keeps me from greater intimacy with my God. What is it in your life that keeps you from simply being still, and resting in who God is? What are you trying to do for God that gets in the way of better knowing God?
Today, I challenge you to take 10 minutes. Get alone. Turn the TV off. Turn the computer off. Turn your phone off. Turn your music off. Don’t talk. Don’t read. “Be still, and KNOW that HE IS GOD!”
One21 exists to build and united community of Christ-followers committed to loving God and loving people.
Our mission statement is derived from two different things Jesus said in the scriptures. I invite all of you to go read Matthew 22:36-40 and John 17:20-23 to find out exactly why I chose to word our mission statement the way that I did.
Through our monthly gatherings, we will use worship, art, teaching, poetry, video and other mediums, by the direction of the Holy Spirit, to lead people to a deeper love relationship with God. Attached to each one of these monthly gatherings, we will also be at least one service project opportunity per month, providing people with a hands on chance to truly show the love of God to humanity. As for the unity part, the service projects will help, however we will also plan at least one social event each month, purely for the sake of getting to know each other better. We will also promote and sponsor events that people within our ministry are involved in.
The information for our next gathering is as follows:
Date/Time: Friday, February 12 | 8PM
Location: Grace Midtown
Address: 1095 State Street, ATL, GA
Note: This night will also be the DVD release for “My Concrete Mattress”. We will be selling the film for $10 a piece (after this night the price goes up to $15). Cash and Check only!
